Conservation Volunteer Australia Week!

Hello Family and Friends!

Another successful week has gone by in the Carpe Diem Hongi group!

As we left Fiji it was hard to say goodbye and many tears were shed when saying goodbye to our home stay families. It felt like a second home in Fiji and is experience we will never forget. That being said, we were looking forward to our next stop in Adelaide, Australia. We stayed at the Blue Galah Hostel for one night before the start of our conservation work. We then spent the week surveying Wombat warrens in order to collect an accurate count of Wombat’s as they are endangered. Our two leaders for the week at CVA were a huge help (Kathryn and Sam). They showed us the ropes on how to survey warrens and set gravel down on the CVA roads. By the end of the week we finished 10 km of road and surveyed 16 warrens. Sam and Kathryn were thrilled with the progress we made and we were proud of ourselves as well. At the end of the week, we were surprised with going to the pool to relax and have a BBQ. The next day it was time to go back to Adelaide so we said our goodbyes to Kathryn and Sam. Now we are preparing for our very long train ride (25 hours) to Alice Springs to spend time in the outback. We are all very excited and some nervous (including myself) to experience the outback but we know it will be an adventure for sure!

Wish us luck!
