We just arrived in Wellington yesterday from our 3 day stay at the beautiful marae! We all met a group of pretty fantastic folks; from cool Grace, to HILARIOUS Dopey. We truly learned loads from the people about environmental issues, to local government. Tommorow we have an early start to catch a plane to Queenstown allllllllll the way at thye bottom of the South Island.

I’ve been here for almost two months so I think it’s about time for my first blog. I came down the sixteenth of January to start my conservation work with the sea turtles. I’m living wih a small Costa rican family. I’m currently sleeping on a bed outside In the back of the house. My house is about 15 kilometers from my work site. For those of you not on the metric scale that’s about ten miles. I usually get up at five thirty or six to start my run to my work site which is in a town called Dominical. My first three weeks I spent patrolling the beach looking for hatching turtle nests and making signs telling people about the turles. I saw three turtle nests hatch. Since then I’ve spen all my working time making more signs and helping wih the city’s recycling. I’ve spent my free time surfing with a group of local kids and taking dance classes on Tuesday nights. I’ve been having an amazing time down here and hopefully the best is yet to come

Greetings from Taupo New Zealand!
We have all survived the first third of our journey around the South Pacific. On the 28th we flew for about 2 hours from enchanting Nadi, Fiji, to modern and young Auckland.
We stayed at a little hostel called Nomads Backpackers. It was a bit crowded and hectic with all of the young people staying at the hostel, but we pushed through!
Our activities included: The Aukland Museum of History (a beautiful, and huge, building on an even more enormous hill filled with rich Maori, and some modern, history), The Sky Tower (which is among the tallest structures on the southern hemisphere) which had a breathtaking view of all of Aukland, and just chilling out in the city at a cafe or restaurant!
Today, we left Aukland (such sweet sorrow it is to leave such an amazing city) and headed south to Taupo; a small town on the south island.
Soon we will be going to an organic farm in Taupo at a fella named Toms house. There’s loads of anticipation with this farm, as Jessica and Justin have mentioned pleanty of times that this was a highlight of previous students trips. I hope it will be as fun as Green Acres!
Peace out girl scout,
Parker

We performed these exquisitely choreographed pieces (“Dig It” – for all that digging we did during our time in Pucará! And “Waka Waka” – “¡Que vive Pucara!”) at the despedida (goodbye ceremony) in Pucará way back when in October.

Hey, this is Helen. We´re back from an amazing week in the jungle! Sorry for not writing earlier, but I´ll tell about our last few days in Cusco, and then coming here. Last friday was our final day of spanish class. It was sad to say goodbye to our awesome teachers, but we get to go out with all of them as our last hoorah. They took us to a picanteria- a traditional restaurant that serves local food. It was a lot of fun! The food was good, and so was the entertainment- and a man playing guitar and singing circled our table, and some of us danced along. Back at the school John (the director) gave us a talk about FairPlay and how/why it began. It was really interesting and stuck with me a lot. It´s amazing to get to travel this way, and meet so many people who are doing great things with their lives. Saturday was a free day in Cusco, and also was Elta´s birthday! Her favorite meal is Sushi, so to celebrate we all met for dinner at a really good asian restaurant in town. On sunday we packed up and headed out early to catch our flight. As soon as we stepped off the little airplane into Puerto Maldanando, sweat just started pouring. It was so hot and humid! Not at all what we were used to coming from chilly Cusco. We spent one night in town there before going to the rainforest. On monday morning we took a 5 or 6 hour boat ride on the Tambopata river to our destination for the week! It was incredibly beautiful and relaxing. We saw a few capybaras on the shore, and the most amazing sight, I thought, was a tree full of brightly colored macaws! There will be pictures to come. We landed at El Gato, our hostel, in the afternoon. I didn´t quite know how to picture a hostel in the middle of the jungle… but it turned out to be really beautiful. Monday night was spent resting and preparing for our week of macheteing trails through the jungle! More news to come…
