Videos

The following are a series of videos - some merely inspirational, others captured by students and staff while overseas. They are shared here for the few insights they might provide about an experience with Carpe Diem and of course are meant to be enjoyed. Stay tuned as new ones roll in from abroad!

Videos Meant to Challenge

FANZ Semester (Fiji, New Zealand, Australia)

The following two videos are of a Maori Haka dance - a warrior's dance similar to a Hawaiian Haka.

The following video was taken in the Australian outback by a student, Paul (you rock!). This was just outside of their volunteer housing and check it out! - KANGAROOS! They're everywhere!

The following video was part of Paul's videography of the group's Routeburn trek (one of the famous treks in New Zealand).

INDIA Semester

The following video shows the India/Pakistan border. Here you see the Indian side and just on the other side of the gate the Pakistanis have the exact same bleacher-system doing the exact same chants. It's probably one of the funniest things you'll potentially see in India.

The following video is of a phenomenal guitar-solo that the semester witnessed on the far banks of the Ganges near Benares (Varanasi).

This video shows an Indian school group giving a thank-you dance to the Carpe Diem group that helped build another classroom at their school. There's one kid here who's a total HAM... but hilarious.

This is a fairly impressive sword-display that a group leader witnessed in the mountains between Jammu and Himachal Pradesh, India.

During our India semester we'll regularly make our way up North to Himalayan district of Ladakh. Ladakh is primarily influenced by Tibet and Tibetan culture and this is a short clip of a local tribal dance that one of our groups witnessed.

East Africa Semester

On our East Africa semester we actually live in a rural Maasai village for a week while living their lifestyle. It's a radically different culture, and this video depicts one of the unique aspects of Maasai culture: a marriage proposal.

Every semester one of the most powerful experiences is that of watching and being a part of a local market day. This video was taken quietly to get the maximum authenticity while walking through a rural market on market day.

For most students the first homestay is a frightening experience. But, when your homestay plays the guitar as well as this family it's hard to do anything but look forward to coming home!

SAM Semester

During many of our semesters you can count on teaching being one of the many types of volunteering that takes place. This recent team that was on our South America program was teaching English to some of the local school kids using the old standby of "Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes."
