Jambo everyone back home! Fred here with the weekly update (: The past week has been an incredible learning experience interacting with everyone at the Kalungami Primary School outside of Jinja Town. We worked very closely with Soft Power Education, a British organization with several programs ranging from school constructions to school refurbishment programs. We worked on the school refurbishment program and helped to paint an entire school building inside and out. The task seemed daunting but we were able to achieve it after hard work and dedication. Step 1 Step 2 Step 2 Step 3 Step 3 Finished! Finished!!

The teachers of Kalungami school also asked for some teaching aids right out of their text book that they can refer to when teaching their classes. Greta, Dan, Duncan, and I showed off some of our incredible painting skills to help out the teachers.

Our week with Kalungami was a huge learning experience, we had an amazing cook named Monica to feed our hungry tummies after our hard work each day. Our foreman named Simon lead us everyday so we could achieve our painting goals each day. Besides all the hard work we had some free time to hangout with all the children, we were even given the opportunity to teach a class! All the kids yell “Muzungu!Muzungu!” which means white person. They taught us Ugandan games and were eager to meet us. At the end of a long week they sang us a Farewell song and did a traditional dance to send us on our ways.

Our first week and first service project was a complete success and besides having to poop in a hole and shower with a bucket we are all having an amazing time. Saying goodbye was sad but Kalungami sent us off with a warm goodbye and invited us back whenever we make it into Jinja town again. We hope all is well in the States, goodbye for now!
