Much Leaving, Many Sad

There is nothing big about the Roatan airport… save for the 12 gringos standing in a circle and saying their final goodbyes; staring at each other, trying hard not to cry, crying, laughing, hugging, letting go, hugging again. It feels as if there are so many things left to say, so many things left to do here. How can this possibly be the end? Were we not just in Xela? Were we not just trekking up and down a volcano? Were we not just pooping ourselves at Bona Fide?? You start on the journey and you think: How can this possibly be happening?! You end the journey and you think: How can this possibly be over?!

Well, it is not over. The memories created here will last a lifetime. Yours, ours, your children’s, your grandchildren’s… these memories will live on in story, they will live on in the space between who you were when you started this journey and who you are now. They will live on in the choices you decide to make, with the wisodom and heart you have cultivated through this sojourn. You are not the same. Your life will not be the same. Your future will not be the same. And in that way, we are all together. We will all be together still. Every one of us is now made up of Maggie’s singing voice, Maddie’s smile, Jenny’s laugh, Riley’s integrity, Myles’ leadership, Emma’s heart, Elle’s caring, Jack’s craziness, Lucas’ bad puns, Sam’s virtuosity, Swanson’s linguistics, Jess’ hugs and Mac’s hilarity. No plane ride in the world can take that away from us now. We have helped form each other, and in that way, we are together forever.

We love each and every one of you soooo much we just want to roll around in the drop toilets with you, and then smear poo all over your faces. <3
