Accepting Applications for Scholarships, Fall 2018/Spring 2019 Semesters & Latitudes Year
While this program is ultimately about you as the student, we work holistically with families and support systems back home to ensure the best possible experience for all involved. We often work with your listed contact(s) prior to the beginning of your program to learn more about who you are as a potential Carpe Diem student. We will also be in contact with them as necessary for financial, health, safety, and behavioral matters.
We are interested in learning more about you and what has brought you to the "The Girl Effect:
Women’s Empowerment and Education" program. We will discuss the following questions further in your interview.
Your responses should be between 1-3 paragraphs and well thought out.
Carpe Diem programs are drug free.
This includes purchase, possession, use of, or being around others using drugs that are illegal in
the U.S.A. and/or in countries where Carpe Diem travel. Also includes abuse or misuse of prescription and/or over-the-counter drugs.
We mean what we say. You will be sent home if you use drugs on our program, no matter how early or late in the program it is. Since laws around drug use are different in other countries, we would rather send you home than have you go to jail. As a foreigner, you are bound by local laws and the United States Department of State will be wholly unable and unwilling to press for your release.
In the interest of safety, liability, personal responsibility, and an authentic experience, we require that participants adhere to our Culturally Significant Alcohol Policy.
We require that students remain sober at all times on program; students may not consume, purchase or possess alcohol without supervision and approval from Carpe Diem staff. The goals of our program are to provide a safe, culturally sensitive, and personally impactful learning experience for our students. We believe this is best accomplished without alcohol. Alcohol detracts from our ability to be present and meet learning outcome; it also significantly increases health and safety risks while abroad and can often be inappropriate in our host communities.
That said, in certain regions, there may be exceptions when sampling a culturally significant alcoholic beverage may be appropriate and contribute to cultural exchange. These exceptions will be pre-approved by Carpe Diem
Headquarters Staff and closely monitored by the Overseas Educators. Examples of culturally significant alcoholic beverages are those that may be a part of the host community's historical or cultural identity and are offered by trusted contacts.
At no point will you be required to drink alcohol. Drinking alcohol outside of these approved, culturally significant times will result in dismissal from the program.
Please answer the following questions by checking the appropriate box or boxes. In order to provide the best and safest experience possible, it is imperative that you answer these questions openly and honestly. We have successfully supported students coming from a wide variety of mental, physical, and emotional health backgrounds. That said, Carpe Diem Education is not a therapeutic program and, therefore, the following questions help us to determine best fit as well as how to support you in your growth and safety.
Carpe Diem Education reserves the right to request further information and to speak with doctors, counselors, etc. as needed. All medical information and personal disclosure will remain strictly confidential.
Please list all medications you are currently taking of have been prescribed. To add additional rows, please click on the +.
Carpe Diem Education discourages students from discontinuing or weaning themselves off of their prescription medication without prior consultation with their guiding physician.
