Turtle Project in Costa Rica

Hot, humid, and happy. These are the words that I would use to describe our experience at the turtle project in Costa Rica. We stayed on an intimidating hill off of Playa Honda, Playa Real and near Playa de Nombre de Jesus. This would be where we spent the rest of the week volunteering with Kuemar, a local organization whose mission is to increase the population of the decreasing sea turtles in the area. We were split into four different work groups A (Aden, Kate, and I), B (Michael, Sayaka, and Natascha), C (Will and Matan), and D (Mason and Andrea), in which we rotated the jobs during the day and night for the duration of our stay. During our stay, we released a batch of baby black sea turtles back into the ocean, collected temperatures in the sand, exumed sea turtle eggs underneath the sand, and tracked turtles during our night patrol. We also got a little burnt and tan from swimming at the beach during our free time. It was a productive week. However, today is our last day in Costa Rica, which we are spending in the city of San Jose before we fly out to Roatan, Honduras in the morning. That is all for now. Hope everything is well back in the United States and Canada. Hasta Semana.
