Kolkata

Our days in Kolkata have been pretty full. Most of us have started our service work at the mother Theresa houses and have had mixed reactions and experiences with it but are still enjoying our time with the organization. Yesterday we got back from our trip to the beautiful Sundarban river delta and mangrove forest that is home to crocodiles, Bengal tigers, spotted deer, wild boar and various types of birds. We were all had our fingers crossed that we would see most of the animals on the list but unfortunately we did not. Even though the animals were in hiding we were just happy to get out of the city, escape to the jungle and stay in straw huts!
Now for the not so great news…Shiva will be losing an amazing and caring member on Monday due to an injury. She has been so strong and supportive throughout this entire experience and none of us want to see her go. We are all hoping our beloved Mathilda will return in a couple weeks once she has healed up maybe even in time for our student directed travel! This news hasn’t been easy for any of us to since we have all bonded and fell in love with Mathilda and her infectious laugh. It’s hard for any of us to imagine our group without her. But until we part ways we are going to enjoy every last moment we get with her.
