Hello!

After a short, two-hour bus ride, we made it to the Rwanda/Uganda border. For many of us, it was the first time going through immigration outside of an airport. We spent the past few days at S.N.E.C. (Special Needs Education Center)! Our projects were to re-paint the inside of their dining hall and to do art/games with the students in the classroom.

Aside from our work in the classroom, we were also in charge of cooking for ourselves! We shopped for all the food we would need for the week in the local market and assigned pairs to cook each day. We ended up with 200 bananas, 50 avocados, 11 pineapples, a sack of potatoes, and much more… Although some were anxious about cooking for ourselves, it turned out to be a great learning experience and we all had a lot of fun!

We themed the painting project “The Very Hungry Caterpillar,” and drew the images from the book on the walls of the dining hall. Painting was accompanied with music and dancing with the kids. On Sunday we attended church for about three hours and experienced the local culture. We were sad to leave the kids, but are excited to embark on our trek around Lake Bunyani next!
