This week we took on the challenge of diving head first into our first homestay experience in Matagalpa, Nicaragua and successfully completed a week of Spanish classes at Colibri Escuela de Español. Spanish, sleep, and eat isn´t all we did though, we were priviledged to participate in various activities that gave us the full cultural experience of this incredible town. We had a full week of challenging, fun, and new experiences. A few highlights include learning to make traditional Nicaraguan cuisine in our cooking class, hiking The Natural Reserve de Apante, and participating in a Nicaraguan dance class- skirts, sweat, and all!
As we prepare for our departure to Ometepe, we will have to say good-bye to our beloved homestay families and the beautiful mountains of Matagalpa. This was our first time being seperated from a whole group into pairs – a few by themselves – and we couldn´t be more excited to fully regroup and share our challenges, highlights, and overall experiences of the past week. Muchas gracias, Matagapla, for endless gallos pintos!
