Don’t Fall For It

Hello everyone!

It’s Gabriela here, and we have made it safe and sound to Delhi! We are staying in the Tibetan Colony right outside of central Delhi, and it is such a great place to be. For me, it is even more special because I was just in Tibet last month. While being in the Tibetan Colony, I have seen a Tibetan flag for the first time and seen many protest signs screaming “Free Tibet”. So that has been pretty cool for me to see!

Yesterday, we got to explore New Delhi, and man, was it crazy and beautiful. We had a scavanger hunt, and were split up into two groups with a list of everything we had to try to get accomplished. We left our little home with passion and determination. As soon as we got off the Metro and into Connaught Place, it was a whole different world. We walked out of the metro and a nice man was helping us with directions. He even brought us to a tourist office! We thought, “wow, the people here are so helpful”. Little did we know this was the first of many scams. We went all over Delhi going to ‘markets’, which were really tourist areas that rickshaw drivers got comission from. But, after some frustration, we managed to have a good laugh. We did not get to tick off all the things on our checklist, but have great stories to tell! And, we will remember that for the rest of our lives.

So, the moral of the story: do not trust nice men trying to send you to private tourist officves, tell your rickshaw driver exactly where you want to go, and don’t ever forget to laugh about it!

We are off to McLeod Ganj tonight, so look for more blog posts soon!
