Greetings from Portland!

Hello everyone!

Greetings from Portland—David and Rachel here. It is a sunny autumnal day and we are planning our incredible semester. We have been digging through our itinerary and we are getting pumped to meet you all and fly to Guatemala next week!

Here are some things to keep in mind in your last few days at home:

-Pack light! Follow the list Carpe Diem gave you and you’ll be all set. You probably already have too many things in your bag! You will have so many opportunities to buy things in all the places we visit, so leave yourself some room. Feel free to bring special things like games, musical instruments, or other weird and fun items.

-It looks like our first stop in Xela, Guatemala, will be a bit cloudy and cool (highs in the mid-60s), so make sure you have at least one warm layer. It will definitely warm up as the semester goes by, so don’t worry.

-Take some time to sit down and break in your journal by jotting down a few personal goals for the semester. Get your mind flowing and start to hone in on what YOU want out of your time in Central America.

Take a deep breath. Smile. Hug your family! Enjoy your last few days at home. Soon we will be embarking upon an incredible adventure with a new family. We are so glad you chose to come with us and we can’t wait to actually meet you all next week.

Feel free to reach out with any last minute questions. You can find us at maya.carpediemeducation@gmail.com.

Hasta pronto,
Rachel and David
