Kristian’s Splendid, Magical, Euphoric Blog

And so Kifaru’s free travel began…with an 8 hour bus ride, (as many things do in Tanzania). With our own budget and affairs to handle the week ahead seem pretty daunting, yet we prevailed as usual. When we arrived to our self picked hostel we arrived to find a homely place filled with couches and all the finest things East Africa had to offer. With our first day in Moshi being a free day we eagerly planned for the days ahead with thoughts of waterfalls, hot springs, and coffee tours. As the second day of our free travel came upon us we traveled for a solid 2 hours to reach the elusive Chemba Hot Springs. When we reached our destination we found a venerable oasis, complete with a rope swing and a chips mayai stand. Life was good. As we came upon the Third day of free travel we embarked on a tour of the base of Mount Kilimanjaro. Our tour guide was a strange guy and as we progressed on the tour of the area we began to suspect a scheme was afoot. After reaching a waterfall for a swim we continued to go on what our guide referred to as a coffee tour, then proceeded to return to the taxi with the constant reminder that he had “hurt himself falling into the waterfall”. Needless to say we returned from the day somewhat exhausted, but still had all had a good time. With our final free day we had another free day which to say the least was uneventful. Tomorrow we return to Dar and then, on to Zanzibar!
