After spending the week scuba diving and relaxing on Phu Quoc, student directed travel has officially begun! As a group we’re responsible for booking accommodations, transportation, and day-to-day activities. It definetly hasn’t been easy for it to all come together but we’re so relieved that it has.
Yesterday we kicked off our newfound freedom by going to VinPearl Land, an amusement and water park on the northern part of the island. The park was completely deserted! It felt very eerie. Nevertheless, we enjoyed no lines, fun rides, and the sunshine! The evening was spent with most of the group squid fishing. Despite there being so many lines in the water, not a single squid was caught!
Today the group ventured out on a day tour of the island. We began by kayaking for just over an hour, going on a short walk through the national park, stopping by a pepper farm, and enjoying a beautiful view of the ocean while we ate lunch.
The remainder of the week is going to be jam-packed with activities as we head towards our finishing point of Ho Chi Minh. We’ll be leaving the island tomorrow, spending a night in Can Tho to enjoy the floating markets, and arriving in Ho Chi Minh with a few days remaining to soak up all that the city has to offer.
It’s becoming very bittersweet to talk of the ending of the trip. We truly can’t believe how quickly three months has gone by!
