Trekking Is A Relative Term

Where to even begin. This week was one of the most beautiful ones yet and I think we all enjoyed being more connected to nature with some of the crispest air I’ve ever consumed.

Starting on day one, another tough travel day. Shuttle to bus to train to train to bus to walk, Carpe has us absolutely mastering the Italian public transportation system. Arriving in a picturesque town adjacent to Abruzzo National Park, we got some devious snacks that may or may not have consisted of Storm and Mallory depleting the whole town’s nutella reserves and Gracie ordering enough lamb kebabs to feed the army of stray cats we encountered.

Moving on, we began our trek to the first refugio. Packing for 6 days even though we later found out we only needed enough clothes for a middle school sleepover, we set off with high hopes and rationed water.

Getting to the first place, we settled into our lovely 10 bedroom room. The food was bussin bussin and the day hike was absolutely beautiful.

Changing locations, the freshly showered Terra group explored the quaint town of Civitella Alfedena where we would frequent the same cafe (the only open establishment in town) about 6 times in the next 3 days. The next two days of hiking were breathtaking and the sunsets were even more bussin. We consumed a wicked amount of food at dinner and only about half of us picked up colds from not layering properly…

Finally leaving at yet again the crack of dawn for another 16 hour travel day complete with a 7 hour bus ride, the group bid farewell to wolves, stray cats, and our trek leader Andrea who saw our rowdy group off. We made a grand Cameo in Rome where we said goodbye to one of our beloved group members, Mason, he will be missed! Ciao, love,
